This goushala was started in the year of 1999 at Hosanagara Taluk of Shivamoga district. It is managed by Dharma Chakra Trust® is a unique cow centre where one can gain a comprehensive portrait of Goumatha, the Universal Mother and also procure complete information on the essence of Bos indicus, the Indian Breed of Cow.

Goumatha has enriched every aspect of our life. With her elixir giving milk, she has shown us love. Through her urine and dung, replete with medicinal properties, she has bestowed us with good health. To the pious, she is Goddess Bhagwati incarnate. To those interested in knowledge, she is the subject of research, because she has hidden within herself innumerable treasures waiting to be discovered. To the seeker, she is the route to cleanse oneself within and without. Endless are her capabilities to help mankind. Whether a student, a teacher, a priest, a seeker, a farmer, or even an illness ridden patient - Goumatha offers something for everyone. But Man in his selfishness, considers Goumatha only as an end-product, a physical object for consumption. She who gives us milk life long, is now desired for her flesh and skin. Such an approach is resulting in the destruction of the unseen spiritual connection between cow and ourself.

Foreseeing this disconnect between Goumatha and mankind, Param Pujya Guruji, Sri Sri RaghaveshwaraBharati Mahaswamiji of Sri RamachandrapuraMath, established the Mahanandi Gouloka at Hosanagara, Karnataka. The unique feature of this Gouloka is that it houses around 30 of the existing breeds of Bos indicus in one place. Already there are more than 450 heads of cattle here. This cow centre is the link connecting farmers, scientists, seekers and researchers to information regarding the Indian Breed of Cows. It is also a centre where products made out of milk, curds, goumutra (cow urine) and gomaya (cow dung), viz. medicines, ghee, etc. are manufactured .

It is known that Sri Swamiji has added significant chapters to the history and legacy of cow protection. The inspiration behind the projects of cow protection was a bull called Mahanandi. Mahanandi which is considered as a saint, was at an organisation in Pune before it won the heart of Sri Swamiji and ignited the spark of Kamadugha project of Sri Ramachandrapura Matha. The cow protection awareness wave created by Mahanandi has spread all over the world today. Many milestones have been achieved. It seems that Mahanandi was born to take cow protection movement to a higher level; his vast influence stretches out to the welfare of all beings. Sri Ramachandrapura Matha's goushala was renamed to ‘Mahanandi Gouloka' to honour the saintly life of Mahanandi and remember him forever. The goushala where Mahanandi lived is now a centre of the cow protection movement. It is a home to 30 cow breeds of our nation, which include Amritamahal, Hallikar, Khilari, Krishnatira, Malenadu Gidda, Vechur, Kangayam, Amblachery, Baraguru, Ongole, Devani, Lal Kandari, Gaolao, Dangi, Gir, Kankrej, Nagori, Tharparkar, Rati, Sahiwal, Kerigar, Kenkatha, Ponwar, Nimari, Malavi, Haryana, Gangatira and Punganuru. Here, all breeds are being protected and also developed.
