Lord Sri Krishna highlighted the glory of cows by being a cowherd. He protected cows and mankind by lifting the Govardhana mountain with his little finger. The attractive Gopalakrishna temple houses the idol of Lord Krishna lifting the Govardhana mountain. It is located in the centre of Mahanandi Gouloka surrounded by cows of all 30 breeds enjoying a carefree life. The suprabhata or the morning alarm for Lord Krishna here is the mooing of the cows. The Lord as the smiling Gopalakrishna carved on black stone is the protector of the cattle here. This amazing and unique goushala is present on the bank of river Sharavati amidst serene surroundings of Sri Ramachandrapura Matha, Hosanagara.
Ramachandrapura Matha and Govardhana Giridhari Gopalakrishna have a bond of centuries. Hundreds of years ago, the saints of northern India had gifted a white idol of Sri Krishna to Sri Matha. The previous pontiff Sri Sri Raghavendra Bharati Mahaswamiji had made arrangements for daily worship of the idol after placing it next to the Hosanagara Rama temple. The present pontiff Sri Sri Raghaveshwara Bharati Mahaswamiji thought that there should be a separate temple and aspired that the temple shall be amidst the cows of the Gouloka. Accordingly, the punah-pratishtha (the reinstallation) of Gopalakrishna was done on the idol carved on black stone. Eminent sculptor Suralu Venkataramana Bhat carved the idol. Under the mentorship of Ve. Mu. Shitikantha Bhat, the then chief priest of Gokarna Mahabaleshwara Temple, the punah-pratishtha event was conducted on 25th February 2018. The divine presence and guidance of SriSri Raghaveshwara Bharati Mahaswamiji blessed the event.
