Krishna Valley is the draught breed of cattle, having the ability to survive in extreme hot, humid climatic conditions and is capable to work well in the black cotton soil in the valleys of Krishna River in Karnataka. Currently, In the northern areas of Karnataka such as Jamakhandi, Mudhol and Athani Talukas, only few hundreds of this breed are left. Continuous drought in the tract and preference of the farmers for Khillari breed which is more attractive and massive in appearance resulted in lack of Krishna Valley Breeding bulls. These are evolved from Gir,Ongole,Kankrej and Hallikar breeds.

Physical Characteristics:

  • Greywhite, brownblack and white molted colours may be seen
  • males are of Darker shades in fore and hind quarters
  • Forehead is distinct bulged
  • Ears are medium sized pointing downward.
  • Horns are small,curved,upward and inward.
  • Hump is well developed, firm and moderate size.
  • tail is long and almost reaches ground
